Feargus Hetherington

Feargus Hetherington completed his studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music having studied violin and viola at the RSAMD. An experienced chamber musician, his duo Maelasta with Matthew McAllister (guitar), perform around the UK and place a special emphasis on music in the community as artists with ‘Live Music Now’. They have recorded a debut album for naturalstudio.

Feargus has appeared as a concerto soloist with over a dozen orchestras such as the Glasgow Chamber Orchestra. He is a member of ‘Sound Collective’ in London, works with new music groups Symposia, Paragon and performs with Scottish Chamber Orchestra; He works with Glasgow-based Jazz artists George Murray and Wayan Carliner in The Action Group. He is performing to critical acclaim with pianist and television presenter Jonathan Cohen in performances juxtaposing traditional music in their own arrangements with the music of Charles Ives. Recitals include Blackheath Halls, London. A violin teacher for the University of Glasgow, he is also a Member of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann and has been heard on Radio 2 with Bristol singer Jane Taylor.

Recipient of many prizes including the Ian D Watt, Dunbar Gerber and John Ireland prizes for duo performances with pianist Gavin Brady, Feargus is indebted to the Scottish International Educational Trust, the Caird Trust and the Cross Trust for past financial assistance.
