Three Solos, One Trio: Neil Davidson, Daniel Padden and Alex South

Three Solos One Trio Solo sets from Neil Davidson, Daniel Padden and Alex South, followed by a trio improvisation.

Neil Davidson (guitar) One note after the other for 20-25 minutes. Fragments, phrases unfolding, re-folded, abandoned. Neil has played a lot of music in different places: brass bands, orchestras, free jazz groups, chamber music etc. and in collaboration with Jean-Luc Guionnet, Any Moore, Anneke Kampman, Arild Vange and so on. He mostly plays improvised music but also composed music by Michael Pisaro, John Cage, Alison Knowles, Mariam Rezaei, George Brecht… neildavidson.bandcamp.com

Daniel Padden will be playing a rare solo gig, accompanied by electric organs, tape players, bass clarinet and his own voice. Daniel is a musician and composer, creating music and sound for theatre, film and live performance. He also makes records and writes music for other people to play. He is the founder of The One Ensemble and a member of Volcano The Bear. “Restlessly inventive” (The List) danielpadden.com

Alex South (clarinet) presents a programme of solo pieces by Emily Doolittle, Oliver Searle and Jane Stanley, with music inspired by the sounds of the sea, bebop and the flickering patterns of fireflies. Alex has made many previous appearances at the Glad Cafe, both as a soloist and with groups such as The One Ensemble, Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, Sound of Yell, and the Scottish Clarinet Quartet. He is about to embark on a PhD studying humpback whale song. “A virtuoso ability” (The Herald)
