Marianne McGregor is a Scottish/Canadian jazz singer living in Glasgow. Growing up in Orkney to a musical family, Marianne found influence in listening to the great jazz singers like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald from a young age and, became obsessed with singing jazz and improvising.
Noticed for her unique use of tone and meaningful delivery, Marianne has been immersed in live performance in Scotland since moving to Glasgow to continue her studies. Although still early in her career, the singer has been recognised by winning the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections 2017, performing at Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival’s Ice House Jazz Stage and supporting Hayley Tuck last year at Glasgow Jazz Festival.
Taking influence from the great jazz singers of the past and merging her style with contemporary music. Noted for her use of phrasing, tone and playful scat soloing. Marianne is now working towards releasing her debut album of original songs.
The Quartet will perform an authentic evening of old jazz meeting contemporary styles. A mix of Marianne’s original songs from her upcoming album and some of her favourite standards.
