Scottish Ensemble is one of the most innovative and outward-looking music ensembles in Europe. From performances with classical singers and instrumentalists to those with visual artists, choreographers, theatre-makers and traditional musicians, we are committed to creating live experiences that engage a broad audience and make new artistic connections.

As our organisation prepares for its 50th-anniversary season in 2019-20, we are now seeking a Head of Development to lead on fundraising strategy and campaigns.

SE has a long history of successful fundraising, from 10 years as the BT Scottish Ensemble – when we enjoyed the largest corporate arts sponsorship contribution in Scotland at the time – to significant trust grants from the likes of the Esmee Fairbairn and John Ellerman Foundations, a range of Scottish supporters, including The Gannochy and Robertson Trusts, and a network of generous individuals. With a strong trajectory of growth over the past five+ years, and an ambitious new Strategic Plan, SE is now seeking to grow its development resources, secure its existing donor base, and explore new avenues for income generation and growth.

Based at SE’s busy office in Glasgow, this 0.6 role will be a key senior position in this growing organisation. The role will have responsibilities across all areas of development including, but not limited to, trusts and foundations; individual giving; legacies; corporate partnerships; fundraising events, and stewardship/cultivation. A special 50th Anniversary campaign, planning for which has already begun, will be a key project. The role will be supported by the Projects & Development Junior Manager and the Administrator & Marketing Assistant.

We seek a candidate with a proven track record of reaching ambitious targets across a range of giving streams, and of building strong donor relationships. A creative approach, open and positive attitude, and ability to plan and deliver a multi-faceted strategy will allow the successful candidate to flourish within our small team. The position demands exceptional interpersonal skills; a compelling writing style; strategic thinking; a drive to innovate and explore new models; and strong public-speaking skills.

The position would suit someone with at least 4 years’ experience of working in development. Passion for and knowledge of classical music is essential, even if your previous roles have been in other artforms or disciplines.
