It was with a tremendous sense of sadness and loss that we learned of the death of our former board-member, colleague and friend— the wonderful, warm, funny and kind Stewart Cruickshank.
A one-man walking music archive, Stewart offered his time, on a voluntary basis, to serve on the Scottish Music Centre board from 2002 to 2009. With his boundless enthusiasm, encyclopaedic knowledge, unlimited encouragement and over thirty years’ broadcasting experience in Scotland and beyond, Stewart was a unique and valued contributor to the Centre that he helped develop, grow and transition into our new home at City Halls, Glasgow in 2006.
Always bursting with new creative ideas which he interspersed more often than not with hilarious anecdotes about his adventures in radio, Stewart was delightful, entertaining company and a most humane, generous man who was genuinely interested in people.
His lifelong contribution to Scotland’s musical life is incalculable.
Thank you, Stewart, from all of us.
Gill Maxwell, on behalf of the Scottish Music Centre staff and board.
