Bows Art Classical Music Management presents... Grieg 100 concert series: Encounters Robert Irvine, Graeme McNaught Edinburgh Queens Hall - £10 (£8) Booking: Queen's Hall - 01369 702800 Recycled Grieg fragments and contemporary jazz provide the focus for this programme, given by the ever eclectic Mr McFall’s Chamber. Scottish composer, James Clapperton bases his new work on an unfinished piano quintet movement by Grieg. It combines Norwegian folk elements with “a series of musical memory traces based upon certain rhythmic and harmonic cells taken from the Grieg.” Another new piece is by contemporary Norwegian composer and percussionist Thomas Strǿnen, for string quartet and jazz percussion. Pure Grieg, for piano and strings, completes the set. An unlikely marriage of cultures and musical idioms, this is Grieg 100 at its most edgy. |
