Born in Kilsyth into a musical family. Studied with Ernest Bullock at Glasgow University and piano with May Tulloch. Moved to Liverpool with husband and family. Colleagues in the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, and the Cathedral Singers encouraged composition. Long-standing interest in Songs of Burns flourished. Further composition study with Bernard Stevens followed family move to Suffolk. Set up home in Glasgow in 1966, becoming active in many aspects of musical life. Well known as composer, teacher, lecturer, pianist, and later harpsichordist. Founder member of Scottish Society of Composers. With husband, Morton, founded the Glasgow Harpsichord Society in 1981, and set up the self-publishing 'St Annes Music' in 1987. Administration of St Annes Music handed over to the Scottish Music Centre on the 28/11/01. Major work 'Burns Lieder, a Break With Tradition' completed in 1993/94 and presented at Leipzig University in 1996. In retirement, compositional activity continues, at a reduced level. Some short pieces now appearing on CD recordings. (2001).
