Sari Schorr & the Engine Room @ Cottiers, Glasgow
Mar 26 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm

In January 2015 legendary producer Mike Vernon (Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall, Blue Horizon) was invited to receive a ‘Keeping The Blues Alive’ award at the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis USA. This award, was not the only highlight of the weekend for Mike, the second was witnessing the performance of one of the most amazing female blues singers Mike has seen in years – SARI SCHORR.

Mike was so knocked out with Sari that he offered to come out of retirement and produce an album with her. Already a consummate songwriter, with tracks on major labels, Sari has written or co-written most of the songs on her new album. This album recording is now well underway.

Several years of touring the USA & Europe with Joe Louis Walker and Poppa Chubby brought Sari greater prominence in the blues world. Sari was recently inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.

Sari has now put together her own band – THE ENGINE ROOM, featuring British guitarist Innes Sibun, formerly with Robert Plant. Together they will celebrate the release of Sari’s debut album on Manhaton Records in September 2016 and undertake a US and European wide tour. Sari is kicking off her groundbreaking tour at Carnegie Hall in NY performing with Buddy Guy, Walter Trout, Eric Burdon, Edgar Winter, Dana Fuchs, Kenny Wayne Shepherd & Laurence Jones on the Lead Belly Fest, Feb 4, 2016.

The Selecter / The Beat feat. Ranking Roger @ O2 ABC, Glasgow
Mar 31 @ 7:00 pm – 10:30 pm

The 2 Tone legends are teaming up to give fans a rare treat, hitting the road together for a six-date tour taking in Glasgow, Manchester, Nottingham, Bristol, Birmingham and London. Life-long friends, they are two of the main bands to come out of 2 Tone – a crucial musical and cultural movement which is still as relevant today as it was over 30 years ago. Renowned for their energetic live shows, longevity has not diminished either band’s ability to put in a performance and get everyone in a room, or field, dancing. Don’t miss arguably two of the best live bands around playing full sets of their many hits, and more.

The Selecter is led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black, alongside an incredible talented band of musicians, and co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair (Pauline & Gaps) are more driven than ever. Their confidence is sky-high and they’re also writing the best songs of their career, which is saying something given the enduring popularity of hits like Three Minute Hero, Missing Words and On My Radio. They’ve played at most major festivals, headlined several UK tours, toured the USA and recorded three studio albums in the last few years, the latest of which, Subculture, was mixed by UK dub-master Prince Fatty and released to critical acclaim in June 2015.

The Beat fronted by Ranking Roger released their spectacular fourth album Bounce (the first in over 30 years) in September 2016. The album shows off every gleaming aspect of one of the most musically diverse bands to come out of the multiracial, multicultural explosion that remade British pop from 1979 onwards. The same energy that drove the hit singles of the 80s; Mirror In The Bathroom, Stand Down Margaret and Too Nice To Talk To – reggae looseness plus razor-sharp song-writing meets the paranoid pace of punk – is here again. Joining Roger in the revitalised band, who’ve played at numerous festivals and at shows in the UK & Europe over the last few years, is his son Ranking Junior AKA Matthew Murphy a powerhouse MC who brings to the band an update on the toasting that made Ranking Roger such a pivotal part of the original Beat.

Calan @ Cottiers, Glasgow
May 2 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm

Fiddles, guitar, accordion, bagpipes and step dancing explode into life when CALAN, the energetic young folk band from Wales, take to the stage.

They breathe fire into the old traditions with their infectious rhythms and high voltage routines before melting into some of the most beautiful and haunting songs as they explore the legends of Wales’ very own fairy realm with tales of magic, myth and mischief.

They have introduced a new generation of music fans to Welsh traditional music – and continue to do so as they tour across Wales, throughout the UK, Europe, North America and beyond.

Great fun, a huge sense of humour, and step-dancing from a champion dancer makes for an outstanding show.

Rab Noakes @ Cottiers, Glasgow
May 7 @ 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm

Performing with Kathleen MacInnes and Innes Watson

Rab Noakes is a force to be reckoned with in the world of music in Scotland and beyond.

In 2017 Rab turns 70. He also celebrates 50 years of properly-billed professional performance. This show reflects those anniversaries with a mixture of new songs, recent songs and landmark songs from throughout his performing and recording career.

Songs from his most recent release ‘The Treatment Tapes EP’, a half-dozen songs relating to his 2015 treatment for tonsillar cancer, will be present as will some from 2015’s well-received double-CD ‘I’m walkin’ here’.

We can expect a fulfillingly upbeat performance from this consummate performer and songwriter.

For this Cottiers appearance only Rab will be joined by renowned singer Kathleen MacInnes alongside fiddler, guitarist and singer Innes Watson. They have each been involved in separate collaborations with Rab recently and in Feb 2017 were part of his full-band Celtic Connections show at Glasgow’s Old Fruitmarket.
