John Maxwell Geddes: Etude d’execution transcendante [download]
For solo trumpet.
The work was commissioned in 1995 by Nigel Boddice with the financial assistance of the Scottish Arts Council. Although the title was borrowed from Franz Liszt and there is more than a passing reference to the music of George Frederick Handel, the Etude affords the performer an opportunity to display his virtuosity and staying power under abnormal conditions. (John Maxwell Geddes)
First performed, Henry Wood Hall, Glasgow, 11 November 1995.
Recording available by Mark O’Keefe on his Knight Errant CD.
