Reel Kids Music

Reel Kids Music is a Community Interest Company set up in 2009 to encourage primary-aged children to participate in, and enjoy, a range of music-making activities. It offers after-school classes, holiday courses, instrumental lessons and musicianship classes in schools and nurseries around Glasgow. Reel Kids Music also delivers in-service training for early years’ staff and primary teachers.

As a result of a successful Creative Scotland bid Reel Kids Music is looking to recruit a new Music Trainee to work in a Nursery School in Easterhouse from September 2019.

Trainee Music Nursery Tutor — will work alongside an experienced musicianship tutor at a Nursery School in Easterhouse delivering music workshops to children aged 3 -5 years. By the end of the year, the successful candidate will have acquired the knowledge, skills and confidence to allow them to pursue other teaching opportunities.

The successful applicant is required to take up the post in September 2019. This is a fixed term freelance position until May 2020.

Person Specification:

You will

  • Be a passionate musician with some experience of, or a keen interest in leading/ delivering music classes for nursery and primary aged children.
  • Be a music graduate qualified to degree level OR be currently studying to complete a music degree (graduating this summer)
  • Have a good singing voice of appropriate pitch and a competent instrumentalist able to perform on at least one musical instrument to a high standard.
  • Be able to effectively communicate with young children

Some knowledge of, or prior training in a Kodály based approach to music education is essential.

Fees

A total fee of £600 is available for 25 sessions. Each session is 1.5 – 2 hours per week. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate they are registered to pay their own tax and national insurance.
