Job Vacancy - Archive Manager
We’re looking for an Archive Manager to maintain and expand our collections, ensuring their integrity and sustainability and improving in-person and remote access, through digitisation and development of new delivery platforms.
The postholder will respond to internal and external enquiries and facilitate the sale and hire of requested items, working with colleagues to devise and implement projects designed to raise the profile of the collection.
There is likely to be scope to grow the role within the organisation by taking on extra projects and responsibilities.

SALARY
£28-30k pa plus pension (pro rata)
HOURS
21 per week. There may be scope to increase hours, pending future funding support.
LOCATION
This is an office-based position at City Halls, Glasgow.
We are happy to consider flexible working requests.
Role Responsibilities
Manage the Scottish Music Centre archive
Identify, catalogue and house new acquisitions in line with the Centre’s Collection Policy
Ensure the integrity and preservation of analogue and digital resources
Manage the Centre’s digitisation programme (including the recruitment, training and supervision of volunteers)
Liaise with composers and songwriters and work within music sector networks to raise awareness of our archiving and digitisation services.
Assist in the general promotion of the archive e.g. advocacy programmes, community building and outreach
Respond to external enquiries by email, phone and in person
Monitor sales and hires, stock levels and manage the payment of royalties to composers.
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation (e.g. copyright, data protection)
Contribute to fundraising for projects involving archive development

Skills & Experience
Essential
Passionate about archives
A working knowledge of, and an interest in, music in Scotland and beyond
Familiarity with the principles and practice of digital preservation
Experience of working in a people-facing role: reliable, confident and calm in dealing with the public and a wide range of creatives.
Strong organisational skills including the ability to multi-task, set
priorities, manage own time and workload
Confident written and oral communicator with experience of report writing
Conscientious, with the ability to pay close attention to detail, problem solve and use initiative
Willingness to work cooperatively within a knowledgeable team and to represent the Centre at relevant meetings, events and conferences
Familiarity with office productivity software such as Microsoft Office
Desirable
Ability to read music
Recognised qualification in archive-, record- or information management (or working towards one)
Degree level education
Some experience of working within an information management, archive or library setting
Familiarity with a range of image- and audio-editing software tools
Experience of web development using MySQL databases and PHP scripts
Familiarity with languages other than English, particularly Scottish Gaelic
Experience in the fundraising process for third sector arts organisations
