Douglas Munn

Douglas Munn was an amateur musician and professor of mathematics.

A life-long enthusiastic amateur musician, Douglas Munn selected music as a subsidiary subject for his M.A. degree and, at one stage, was a part-time student at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, receiving piano lessons from Wight Henderson and Miles Coverdale.

In recent years he reworked and edited several of the piano pieces that he composed when he was younger. Considerable alterations and additions were made in some cases, while in others the changes were minimal.

His aim throughout was to bring each piece into its best form, while retaining the character and simplicity of the original.

Primarily, Douglas was a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Glasgow, with abstract algebra constituting the main body of his research.
