Emma Martin
"Their dark-tinged lyrics are deep and rich, and they compose melodies to die for." - Leith Folk Club
Emma Martin is an award-winning community musician, folk singer and storyteller based in Glasgow. An accomplished songwriter, Emma won the Hands up for Trad Scots songwriting competition and was the recipient of a S.W.L.M.'s Making Waves award in 2021.
Since joining Live Music Now Scotland as an Artist in 2022, Emma has further developed their specialism in community music. Their dedication to music's ability to create connection has led to residencies across Scotland, from The Yard to Queen Elizabeth Hospital's Spinal Unit. A two-year project funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation saw Emma leading residencies at Girvan and Invergarven schools, bringing music to children and young people with additional support needs.
Emma's belief in the universality of music extends to all ages. They've led songwriting workshops for Live Music Now Scotland musicians, and have performed as soloist across the country, including performances at the Pianodrome, the Scottish Storytelling Centre and Celtic Connections. Emma is passionate about empowering others, helping them find independence, autonomy and enjoyment through the power of music.
