Gareth Clemson


Gareth Clemson was a composer, performer, teacher and freelance music critic.


 

Gareth Clemson aka CHEZZ was born in New Zealand and moved to Scotland in 1962. He studied music at Auckland University, Edinburgh University, and with Thomas Wilson.

He taught music in Scotland from 1966, and founded the Chameleon Ensemble in 1985.

His compositions have been performed and broadcasted in New Zealand and Scotland, and include song cycles, orchestral works, and numerous pieces for strings.

Works include Six Repartitions for Solo Viola; A Song for the Inner Self for full orchestra; Tillywhally Time: seven short pieces for elementary string orchestra; and A Passing Dream for full orchestra including tubular bells, harp and celesta, with a short section for six part unaccompanied chorus.
