Mairi Campbell
Mairi Campbell is a pioneering Scottish musician and teacher whose work is rooted in, and draws from, her personal stories and cultural concerns.
In 2024 Mairi's groundbreaking music theatre production 'Living Stone' won a 'Fringe first' award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This is the third of her trilogy of shows: Pulse (2016) Auld Lang Syne (2018) Living Stone (2024).
As an interpreter of Scots song, Mairi and collaborator and husband David Francis have contributed a significant number of songs to its current canon. She is the recipient of six national music awards including the Inspiration Award in 2018. In 2019 she was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame.
In 2008 Mairi and Dave's version of Auld Lang Syne was placed in the blockbuster movie 'Sex and the City'. Mairi lives six months a year on the island of Lismore in the Inner Hebrides, where she teaches violin, fiddle camps and headsup the local dance band. The rest of the year Mairi is based in Portobello.
