Gemma McGregor: Strange Fish [download]

Work for solo bassoon, dedicated to Lesley Wilson, composed in 2015.

In this piece, the bassoon takes on the role of Caliban from Shakespeare's play, The Tempest. The play tells the story of Duke Prospero, who has come to a remote island to usurp Caliban, the dark, earthy, native son of a witch-hag, from his kingdom. Prospero's jester, Trinculo, calls Caliban a 'strange fish' - hence the title.
