Hilary Brooks: Amelia Earhart [download]
For two pianos. From the PianoPiano project, a collection evoking the spirit of ten remarkable women.
Computer typeset score (9p) saved as pdf for immediate download.
We celebrate Amelia Earhart; the first aviatrix to fly solo across the Atlantic from Newfoundland to Derry, in Ireland in 1932. She was a pioneer in aviation.
Courageous and determined, she set out in May 1937 on her second record breaking attempt to fly around the world. Her first attempt in March that year ended in a crash in Hawaii. Following a route close to the equator, all went well till suddenly radio contact was lost and her plane disappeared mysteriously somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. Rescue crews to this day still mount searches for her, such is her legacy.
In this music we hear her taking off amidst the encouragement of the cheering public, then is left alone flying silently and single handed.
Recording available on CD.
